What My DVD Collection Includes and So Should Yours

While different people like different movies for different reasons, it never hurts to get some recommendations from time to time to add to your repertoire of films. Though you may always have certain films, actors, or directors which entertain you ever time, learning what's in my DVD collection may help you to think outside of your box and to begin to have something for everyone in your home. After all, some days you may be entertaining others and that means you need to consider the tastes of your guests. To help, my DVD collection includes movie categories based on the emotions they provoke. After all, some days, you just want a movie that makes you cry, laugh, or think.

Movies for Crying

Within my DVD collection are a variety of movies that are designed to make you cry. While it's true that not everyone cries for the same reasons, having a few sad, sad movies around is never a bad thing. If you're having a bad day or you simply want to watch someone else be miserable besides you, having a few sad movies will help you to feel better - while crying, often. Some of the best sad movies around today include: Steel Magnolias, Old Yeller, Titanic, etc. Look for movies with a hero that has to overcome something difficult. Look for movies in which the hero has to face a disease that is terminal, etc.

Movies for Laughing

But of course most people will prefer movies that make them laugh. In my DVD collection, I have a number of movies that include children's comedies and adult comedies. After all, you need to have age appropriate comedies for anyone who might come over. Try to find movies which continue to be funny year after year - Monty Python films, National Lampoons, Jim Carrey movies, etc. Again, not everyone's sense of humor is the same, so you will want to have many funny movies on hand to make sure everyone has something that will entertain them.

Movies for Thinking

For those times when you want to be serious or when you want to think about the world, you might want to add thinking movies - i.e. documentaries, Oscar winners, etc. These movies will often have one serious topic to address and that will allow the viewer to begin to feel more educated and even inspired to apply the lessons they've learned to their lives as well. Thinking movies can be art house films as well - or they can be independent features without all of the digital imagery of modern day blockbusters. Some thinking movies include Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Kite Runner, etc.

No matter what movies you might like in your DVD collection, I think my DVD collection stands the test of time because of its diversity. I don't always feel like watching the same movie again and again. And there's a high likelihood that you don't either.
